Top Hiking Spot In Australia

Updated: Feb 23, 2022

Hiking in Norway is something that is done before Norwegians can even walk! So how does hiking in Australia compare?

Australia has a huge hiking scene. In fact, if you have ever been into adventure stores most of the gear will be for either camping or hiking equipment. Australians love the great outdoors, and with an area of 7,617,930 square kilometers, (Australia is the largest country by area in Oceania and the world's sixth-largest country) it is not hard to get away from it all and enjoy what mother nature has to offer 'Down Under'.

Best spot we visited:

Cradle Mountain. I visited Cradle Mountain as a teenager with my parents and it was one of the most beautiful places I've visited since.

With accommodation at around 750NOK a night, it is common for Australians to stay a little while and explore the beauty of Tasmania. If you do not know where it is, here is a map.

Catch a Buss. A buss leaves about every 15 minutes or so, so it is super easy.

Tasmania is known for local wineries and Cheese factories. Why not catch a buss and plan the day with a picnic lunch? There are so many fantastic local businesses that sell fresh and homemade products, you really have a good choice of fresh produce, and a well packed lunch makes for an amazing hiking experience that you won't find anywhere else in the world!

More about Cradle Mountain.

Rain, rain, go away... It is often cloudy, so if you get there on a clear day, buy a lotto ticket!

Cradle Mountain is a suburb (or locality) and mountain in the Central Highlands region of the Australian state of Tasmania. The mountain is situated in the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. At 1,545 meters above sea level, it is the sixth-highest mountain in Tasmania. The locality of Cradle Mountain is a rural locality in the local government areas of Meander Valley, Kentish and West Coast in the Launceston and North-west and west local government regions of Tasmania.

Travel warnings:

Unfortunately, due to current travel restrictions, Cradle Mountain is closed. However, Australia has announced today, Feb 8th 2020, that they will reopen boarders and lift many travel restrictions before the end of the month. So stay tuned for updates.

--Article Update: Today Feb 21st, 2022, Australia reopens it's boarders after two years.
